We were picked up at our Airbnb by our wonderful guide Miguel. The personal service shown to us right at the beginning of our day long tour was a sneak peak of the rest of the day. The four of us were driven to the Douro Valley where we caught a boat and traveled up the river to a wonderful stop for lunch. The food served was amazing and delicious. It was served family style and we had, beef, salad, rice, potatoes, chips, cheese, breads and prosciutto. We thought we will never eat all this food but we did. I would go back to this location just to have another meal here. We then took the train back to town and drove to a vineyard where we were served a tasting of wines , ports and olive oil. the young lady serving us gave an excellent description of each. We then headed back to Porto along a different route which was very picturesque, stopping for some amazing views and photos.
Through this whole experience was Miguel who never stopped being helpful, sweet, knowledgeable and funny. None of this would of been as memorable or fun if we didn't have Miguel as our guide. If you have the chance to take this tour see if you can have Miguel as your guide.

Fui eu e mais 2 amigos fazer esta experiência no Douro. Foi um tour magnífico, único e muito bem organizado. Tivemos um magnífico guia a fazer o tour connosco que foi o Sr. Ricardo, que acompanhou connosco o tour todo, um guia excelente, conseguimos ver o gosto pelo o trabalho que faz, esteve sempre a falar connosco e a dizer a história das quintas e das vinhas, também explicou a história do douro isto tudo com passeio de van até pinhão. Quando chegamos ao pinhão, embarcamos num barco que foi uma experiência sem palavras, muito tranquilo a aproveitar as vistas e as brisas do rio. Tivemos o privilégio de conhecer o responsável da deltatur o Sr. Rui que foi uma pessoa incrível e que nos acompanhou no barco. Fomos almoçar ao restaurante calça curta que foi maravilhoso, comida tradicional e muito saborosa. Fizemos o passeio de comboio e por último fomos visitar a quinta do bomfim provar vinhos. Foi tudo 5 estrelas e é uma experiência sem dúvida a voltar a fazer.

El tur comienza con un paseo en bote, seguido de almuerzo en un restaurant típico con vista al rio, luego un paseo en tren y finalmente visita a una vina con degustación.
El paseo en bote es una experiencia agradable con audio, salvo que el bote estaba bastante lleno de gente.
A continuation la experiencia promete almuerzo en un restaurante con una magnifica vista al rio. Cuando llegamos nos iban a sentar afuera de la entrada del establecimiento en la vereda con vista a la calle/autos y a mas de 30 grados de temperatura. Insistimos en la promesa de almorzar adentro con vista al rio, y la agencia no hizo ningún esfuerzo por solucionar el problema. Finalmente, el guía consiguió que nos sentasen adentro (no con vista frontal al rio pero pasable). El personal del restaurant muy amable y la comida muy abundante.
La visita a la vineria fue agradable dada la amabilidad del personal.

Fantistic experience all due to our personal guide Racquel ! Pick up at hotel was smooth and on time vehicle comfortable, good ride with plenty of scenery to first stop to meet boat in Pinhão. Onboard we realized an App was available, which did'nt have but Racquel to the rescue. She lent us her phone and headphones for us to hear the commentary while viewing beautiful Quintas along the river. After lunch in Tua at a local restaurant sampling many dishes, wine and beer we returned via train back along the river. Next up, 2 Quinta visits. First a olive oil and wine grower/producer with tastings overlooking a tremendous veiw. Next up after a short ride to a port lodge where we sample 3 different ports,again with a view. Then a long ride back to Porto via a different route, very busy full day. Expect 8-10 hours. Will remember forever ! Recommend tour and ask for Racquel.

We chose this particular tour because it included both a boat ride on the river and a train ride along the river, and included lunch at a wonderful local restaurant with food typical of the region, along with a stop at a small vineyard with wine and olive oil tasting and tour. Our tour guide was from the Douro Valley and was a wealth of information about the area. We were picked up at our Porto hotel in a comfortable minivan. We didn’t realize when booking that it was a two hour drive from Porto to Pinhão, which was the beginning of the boat ride. The boat then took us up river past the quite a few of the vineyards, and included commentary as we went. The recording was multi-lingual, and was accessible via Bluetooth from the passengers’ personal devices. Fortunately we had our iPhones with us and had accessibility, not everyone did (there was no mention prior to the trip that this was necessary). The signal strength on the boat was a little weak, and we occasionally lost connection so didn’t hear all of the commentary, but a lot of it was pointing out spots of interest along the way that we could easily see and identify without the commentary so it wasn’t much of a problem (of course I don’t know what we missed!). Then we docked up river, and had lunch at a wonderful local restaurant overlooking the river and the vineyards on the opposite bank. The food was typical cuisine of that area, and was delicious! We then took the train back down to Pinhão. The train hugged the banks of the river in this area, so the view from the train was just as spectacular as from the boat. We disembarked at Pinhão, and we’re able to take a quick tour of the station, which had hand painted tile scenes all along the walls, depicting the history of the valley and the vineyards. Our guide then drove us by minivan to a spectacular viewpoint high on the mountain side, and then our final stop at one of the vineyards, where the owner gave a short tour and explanation of the process of making olive oil and wine making, before taking us to a tasting room where we tasted three of their wines; a white, a rose’, and a red, along with fresh bread, their own olive oil, and some local honey. I have to say I was surprised this tour included a stop at only one vineyard, we would have loved to have stopped at a few! However the drive time from Porto to Pinhão didn’t allow time for more. We then made the two hour minivan ride back to Porto to our hotel. Be prepared for a very full day, the description for this tour says it is eight hours, in our case the boat potion was late getting started, the return train was late, and then with the long car ride it turned out to be closer to ten hours (this would of course vary depending on your hotel location). In spite of this I would highly recommend taking the time for a tour of the Douro Valley, it is spectacular! Pictures are great but can’t capture the magic of the real life panoramic view of the river, the valley, and the vineyards!
