This district has been around since Roman times, but it really made its mark in the 18th and 19th centuries, and you’ll easily be able to sense the elegant charm from those times while exploring Chiado.</p><h2><strong><img src="https://tuneverse.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/blog/IMG_7794.jpeg"></strong></h2><p><br></p><h2><strong>History of Chiado</strong></h2><h3><strong>A Brief History</strong></h3><p>The name <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiado#:~:text=The%20Chiado%20has%20been%20inhabited,Siege%20of%20Lisbon%2C%20in%201147." rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">"Chiado" comes from a 16th-century poet named António Ribeiro. People liked to call him "chiado," which means "squeak." There's even a bronze statue of him in Chiado Square to commemorate his legacy.</a></p><p>In 1988, a large fire did serious damage in Chiado. But with the help of architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, the district was not just restored, but it flourished, becoming a prime spot for real estate in Portugal.</p><p>Chiado is a beautiful combination of historical elegance and modern charm. Historic cafés like "A Brasileira" stand alongside well-known theatres. It's a place that tells Lisbon's story while also moving with the times.
